Make a small comparison
For each retailer, note the exact item, quantity and condition. Then add the product price after an eligible discount, delivery and any required extras. Subtract only discounts that apply to your own basket.
| Cost | Shop A | Shop B |
|---|---|---|
| Item | £30 | £33 |
| Eligible discount | −£3 | £0 |
| Delivery | £5 | £0 |
| Total | £32 | £33 |
In this example A saves £1, provided the code applies and the delivery service meets your needs.
Check the threshold calculation
Free delivery may require a minimum spend calculated before or after a discount. Read the retailer’s condition rather than assuming the displayed basket qualifies. Only add an extra product if its usefulness justifies the extra cost.
Check timing and returns separately
A cheaper delivery service is less useful if it arrives after you need the item. Check the stated delivery estimate and any location restrictions. For items you may return, also compare return charges and the retailer’s process. Keep those possible costs separate from the amount payable now.
Use the final checkout summary
Prices and availability can change between browsing and checkout. Confirm the discount, delivery option and complete payable total before paying. If the total differs from an earlier listing, use the retailer’s current terms and price to decide whether to continue.
